NUSeq Core

The NUSeq Core facility provides full next-gen sequencing (NGS) capability to Northwestern University. The core brings together in-house NGS data generation and bioinformatics support in a single integrated operation. As the only Northwestern core facility dedicated to NGS, NUSeq serves scientists on both the Chicago and Evanston campuses, as well as those at external academic and commercial organizations.

How to Order

Before initiating a project, it is advisable to consult with NUSeq on your specific project needs and request a quote on the associated cost. For general information, visit the links below.

Changes in Sequencer Access

Since September 2023, NUSeq has offered high-throughput sequencing with the state-of-the-art Illumina NovaSeq X Plus. At the mid-throughput level, the core has also acquired the DNBSEQ-G400 Sequencer from Complete Genomics and the Element AVITI from Element Biosciences. As a result of these recent acquisitions, NUSeq is retiring some earlier generations of sequencers, including the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 (unavailable as of January 2024) and HiSeq 4000 (unavailable mid-March 2024). Users can transition to the three newer sequencers based on the number of reads and turnaround time needed. Other sequencers, including NextSeq and MiSeq, will continue to be available.

Service Excellence and Impact

A two-time awardee of the Office for Research's Core Facilites Service Excellence Award, NUSeq Core is recognized for excellence in governance, resource management, innovation and outreach.
