Cryopreservation of Mouse Lines Services and Rates

Embryo Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation of a minimum of 150 embryos from homozygous males or 200 embryos from heterozygous males or a maximum of three IVF sessions.

We provide the following services:

  • Ordering and preparation of wild-type females; or assistance with hormonal preparation/mating of female mice
  • Isolation of oocytes/sperm and IVF; or isolation of embryos from reproductive tract of females
  • Cryopreservation of fertilized embryos
  • Test thaw evaluation for every freeze
  • Long-term storage of embryos in two different LN2 freezers in separate locations

The costs include:

  • Purchase of wild-type females used for the project
  • Cryopreservation of embryos
  • Quality control analysis of frozen embryos
  • Additional costs:
    • Use of non-standard strains for IVF
    • Additional sessions for strains with low fertility, if more than embryos are required following the three session maximum

Investigators are responsible for the following costs:

  • Housing costs: per diems of single house males for the duration of the procedure
  • Transport costs: all transport costs associated with the transfer of animals to different vivaria

Sperm Cryopreservation

A minimum of 17-19 straws each containing enough sperm for four IVF dishes are frozen for each line.

We provide the following services:

  • Isolation of sperm from supplied males (two males are required initially, a second set may required)
  • Cryopreservation of sperm
  • Test thaw evaluation for every freeze
  • Long-term storage of embryos in two different LN2 freezers in separate location

The costs include:

  • Cryopreservation of sperm
  • Purchase of wild-type females used for the project
  • Quality control analysis

Investigators are responsible for all transport costs associated with the transfer of animals to different vivaria.
