1) ACUC APPROVAL. The facility has Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) approval for the production of transgenic/chimeric animals. However, investigators are required to obtain ACUC approval for the experiments to be performed with the animals once generated. Please contact the Office for Protection of Research Subjects (www.northwestern.edu/research/OPRS/acuc/forms/) to initiate this process. Be aware that the process may take as long as 1-2 months. ACUC approval must be obtained before injections can begin.
2) Investigators with animal protocols not approved by the Northwestern University
ACUC must also provide a copy of your current Institutional Biosafety Committee
(for research involving recombinant DNA molecules) approval letter.
3) Project initiation: All Transgenic and Targeted Mutagenesis Laboratory
(TTML) projects are submitted in writing to Dr. Doglio. Application
forms should include a brief summary of the project, information detailing
the construction and genetic map of the transgene/targeting vector, evidence
of a robust genomic DNA screening assay, and appraisal of any potential transgene-related
birth defects. An approved animal protocol is required when DNA is submitted.
Dr. Doglio will initially review proposals. Any problematic issues are first
discussed with individual members of the TTML Executive Committee and the
investigator in an attempt to resolve them prior to the initiation of the
requested service. If recommended, the full oversight committee may review
concerns.
Services are performed in the order projects are received and scheduled only
after all requested information AND DNA is received. If you have any questions
please contact Dr. Lynn Doglio at 312.503.0088 or e-mail TTML@northwestern.edu.
Completed applications can be sent via email or fax (312.503.0087).
