Research Interests
Dr. Rubinstein’s clinical and research efforts have focused
on hereditary cancer syndromes, with an emphasis on early cancer detection
and prevention. While at the University of Pittsburgh she participated in
the discovery of the SDHD gene responsible for hereditary paraganglioma, published
in Science 2000. Dr. Rubinstein is the recipient of a National Cancer Institute
Career Development Award from Northwestern University’s Breast SPORE,
focusing on microarray research in breast cancer. Dr. Rubinstein is principal
investigator of a study on the clinical utility of breast MRI for early cancer
detection in high-risk women. She is Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI, Suzanne
M. O’Neill, PhD) for a Centers for Disease Control-funded multicenter
study on “Evaluation of a Family History Tool for Health Promotion and
Disease Prevention”. Dr. Rubinstein is co-investigator (PI, Randall
Brand, MD) for the ENH Pancreatic Cancer Family Registry. She is co-investigator
(PI, Kenneth Bozorgi, MD) for the National Cancer Institute/Gynecologic Oncology
Group national study, “Prospective Study of Risk-Reducing Salpingo Oophorectomy
and Longitudinal CA-125 Screening among Women at Increased Genetic Risk of
Ovarian Cancer (NCI/GOG 0199)”.
