Research Interests
The long term goal of William Karpus’ research program is to develop an understanding of the mechanisms of tissue-specific lymphocyte recruitment and accumulation in models of autoimmune disease and hematologic malignancies. To this end, they have studied the role of chemokines and their receptors and continue to elucidate the roles of these molecules in lymphocyte migration utilizing genetically mutant mice. These tools include the construction and use of both transgenic and targeted gene deficient mice. This genetic approach to the mechanistic study of chemokine and chemokine receptors in a variety of murine autoimmune models and tumor metastasis models continues to be a main component of his programs’ efforts.
