Research Interests
Dr. Datta is an Immunologist, working on the basic mechanisms of systemic
autoimmunity (Lupus) since 1974. He has been conducting genetic studies segregating
endogenous retrovirus gene loci from lupus susceptibility, and is currently,
in collaboration with an Associate Professor at Southwestern Medical School
in Dallas, mapping lupus susceptibility regions by whole genome scans in a
mouse model of lupus. He has been analyzing differential gene expression patterns
in human lupus T cells that might be associated with hyper-expression of CD40
ligand, lowered activation threshold, and resistance to anergy.
