Dr. Joel Charrow is a medical geneticist, and has run the clinical genetics
program at Children's Memorial Hospital since 1981. He is also the director
of the Genetics Diagnostic Laboratory at CMH, co-director of the Neurofibromatosis
Program, the Skeletal Dysplasia Center, and director of the Jewish Genetic
Disorders program. Dr. Charrow is the interim director of the Genetic Counseling
training program at Northwestern, and consultant to the genetic counseling
clinical program. He is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics
in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Biochemical Genetics and is a Founding Fellow
of the American College of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Charrow’s current research relates to the treatment of lysosomal
storage disorders by enzyme replacement therapy. His other major area of research
interest is in the natural history of genetic disorders, especially neurofibromatosis
and Gaucher disease.
