Mouse Genetics Group Hosts Second Annual Poster Competition
Susan Dymecki and Christopher Mutch discuss his award-
winning poster
The Center for Genetic Medicine’s Mouse Genetics Group hosted its second annual spring meeting and poster competition in May, featuring twenty-one research posters from Northwestern and other area university students, postdocs, and faculty. Discussion flowed as presenters shared ideas, experimental methods, and resources with one another. First place was awarded to Christopher Mutch, a Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) graduate student in the laboratory of Anjen Chenn, associate professor of pathology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, and second place to Rodrigo Pacifico, an Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program (NUIN) graduate student in the laboratory of Tom Bozza, assistant professor of neurobiology and physiology at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.
Following the poster session, keynote speaker, Dr. Susan Dymecki, associate professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School, shared how her lab generated a variety of recombinase-based transgenic tools for both descriptive and functional studies in mice. After Dymecki’s engaging talk, the meeting concluded with more networking at the reception.
The Mouse Genetics Group was initiated in 2007 by Bozza and Raj Awatramani, assistant professor of neurology at Feinberg, and is supported by the Center for Genetic Medicine. It is designed to be a forum for mouse genetics researchers, providing opportunities for labs wishing to develop transgenic mouse models to connect with the broader community. Each year the group builds on its vision through networking opportunities like the annual spring and fall lecture events. Online discussisons continue throughout the year via the group’s listserv and the Mouse Database, accessible via the CGM website. Please email annashepherd@northwestern.edu if you are interested in joining or would like information on future events.
