Genomics Core Acquires New Genotyping System

published on Tuesday, August 11, 2009

The Genomics Core Facility at the Center for Genetic Medicine is pleased to announce the acquisition of a TaqMan OpenArray Genotyping System, purchased with funds from Douglas Vaughan, MD, Irving S. Cutter Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine at the Feinberg School. It can perform PCR-based SNP analysis for 16-256 SNPs and 12-144 samples per plate, and image up to three plates at once. According to Nadereh Jafari, the core’s director, the OpenArrray Genotyping System will allow the facility to offer both low and medium density SNP analysis services at a much lower price. She expects it to be up and running later this fall.

The core also offers high density SNP analysis using both Affymetrix technology and the Illumina iScan system. The set-up of all Illumina genotyping reactions is automated by a Tecan Freedom EVO system, ensuring fast and accurate results.

For more information about other services offered by the core, including pricing, please visit their website here. To initiate a project, please email the core at genomics-core@cgm.northwestern.edu or call 312-503-3680.
