The NUgene Project seeks to increase the understanding of genetic mechanisms underlying common diseases, assist in the development of DNA-based technology for diagnosis and treatment of disease, and aid physicians and other healthcare providers in the application of genetics to the practice of medicine.
This is an exciting time in medicine and biomedical research. Armed with the human genome sequence, researchers look to understand the genetic basis of human disease. Soon this information will be used to develop strategies for all aspects of health care; from risk assessments to individualized treatments. Studies like the NUgene Project will make this progress possible. In the future, research facilitated by NUgene will allow us to apply knowledge from the human genome to everyday healthcare.
