Sanjiv Shah, MD

Assistant Professor of Medicine
Feinberg School of Medicine

Research Interests
Dr. Shah's research interests involve the genetics of cardiac structure and function. He has conducted genetic studies in the Hutterites, a founder population with reduced genetic and environmental heterogeneity. These studies have focused on heritability and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of cardiovascular traits such as blood pressure, left ventricular hypertrophy, and cardiac contractility. He is also currently studying genetics of cardiac structure using GWAS of cardiac MRI traits in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), and the genetics of cardiac mechanics using speckle tracking echocardiography in the Hypertension Genetic Epidemiology Network (HyperGEN). Lastly, Dr. Shah is studying the genetic risk factors for connective tissue disease-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension as part of the Northwestern Scleroderma Program.
