Faculty Biography:
Currently working on a cooperative grant from NHGRI: Genome-wide Studies from the NUgene Biorepository. We are interested in testing the hypothesis that samples collected with appropriate informed consent, data sharing policies, and access to EMRs can be effectively employed for studying the contribution of genetic variation to human health and disease. I am particularly involved in evaluating the appropriateness of our consent and consultation process for GWAS data dissemination. Using a community consultative approach in which mixed methods are utilized to obtain input from community members; including the public, biorepository participants, health care providers, investigators, IRB professionals, ethicists, patient advocates, and others interested in the potential risks and benefits of participating in genetic research. A result of the community consultative approach will be the development of "best practices" for IRB interactions, participant consent, and results reporting from GWAS.
