Jeff Weiss, PhD
Research Professor of Medicine

Research Interests
Dr. Weiss' overall interests are in mammalian reproduction. In previous years, he studied the regulation of pituitary gondaotropin gene expression and hormone secretion. More recently, he has been working on two topics. The first is trying to determine the genetic cascades involved in male/female sex determination and subsequent development of the gonad. Most of this time is spent on a genome-wide mutagenesis screen for genes involved in spermatogenesis. The second is the control of gene expression by estrogen receptor alpha via mechanisms that do not involve the classical estrogen response element in DNA (the so-called "non-classical" mechanisms).
