Gerhard Baumann, MD
Professor of Medicine, Emeritus
Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine
Feinberg School of Medicine
Research Interests:
Gerhard Baumann’s interest in genetics stems from his work with the human growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) receptor gene. His group has identified a new syndrome of dwarfism due to a nonsense mutation in that receptor. This was the first mutation identified in that gene, and work on genotype-phenotype correlations is ongoing. Dr. Baumann’s laboratory has characterized and sequenced the entire human GHRH receptor gene. His broader interests relate to the influence of various genes on growth and development.
