Amy A Lemke, MS, PhD

Faculty Biography:
Dr. Lemke received a MS degree in genetic counseling from the University of California-Berkeley and a PhD in public health and community health sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a research assistant professor in the Center for Genetic Medicine and is a student advisor and lecturer in the Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling. Dr. Lemke is a co-investigator of a NHGRI grant entitled, “Genome-wide Studies from the NUgene Biorepository,” and is currently collaborating on a community consultation project to assess public and biobank participant attitudes toward data sharing, and a multi-center study to assess IRB professional and researcher views toward human genetic research issues. Dr. Lemke is the principal investigator of an IDPH funded grant to conduct a genomics education needs assessment in Illinois Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Programs, and to provide continuing professional education in genomics. She has also directed a number of funded projects to deliver genetic services to underserved communities. Dr. Lemke is a qualitative and quantitative researcher and her research areas of interest include public health genomics, ethical/legal/social issues in genomics, translational genomics, community-based participatory research and community consultation models, and cross-cultural issues in underserved populations.
