CGM Mission

The Center for Genetic Medicine is a joint venture between Northwestern University, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital, and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare.



The mission of the center is to:


* increase the understanding of fundamental genetic mechanisms

* discover the genetic basis of human diseases

* foster the development of genetically-based diagnostic tests for the evaluation of patients


* facilitate the development of genetically-based therapies


* stimulate the application of genetic technologies to the evaluation and treatment of patients at NMH, CMH and ENH


* coordinate Northwestern University’s educational activities in the area of genetics


* improve public understanding of genetics and the impact of genetics and genetic technologies on society
